Definition	Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) is the amount of dissolved oxygen needed (i.e. demanded) by aerobic biological organisms to break down organic material present in a given water sample at certain temperature over a specific time period. This indicator presents information on the BOD estimate of industrial wastewater effluents discharged from food sector industries listed in Appendix I of Decision IG.20/8.2 and other industries within the hydrological basin discharging directly or indirectly into the Mediterranean Sea.
